Thank You Letter to Senators who Voted Against Sotomayor’s Confirmation
Dear Senator,
On behalf of Americans United for Life, I want to thank you for your vote against Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s confirmation to the United States Supreme Court. We understand that the Senate’s “advice and consent” role is an enormous responsibility, and deeply appreciate your diligence in performing this duty.
Your vote on Judge Sotomayor’s nomination demonstrates that you believe a nominee’s judicial philosophy goes to the heart of his or her qualifications to serve on the United States Supreme Court. We agree, and opposed Judge Sotomayor’s nomination because her judicial philosophy is far outside of the mainstream. While Judge Sotomayor was ultimately confirmed to the Court, we were strongly encouraged that you and 30 of your colleagues voted on principle. Your vote was about more than one judicial nomination — with your vote, you advocated for the preservation of the United States Constitution and the right of Americans to protect unborn children through the legislative process.
Thank you again for your commitment to principle, and for your service to our Country.
Sincerely,
Charmaine Yoest, Ph.D.
